Hello there, we’re James and Evan: two former grad students at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, fans of athletic competition, popular culture, and the high comedy that was Seinfeld.
As the story goes, the New York Yankees fired George Costanza with severance, giving him the opportunity to read books from beginning to end (in that order), play frolf, taste the fruits and let the juices drip down his chin. It was the “Summer of George.”
Similarly (and also not-so-similarly), we just finished up an internship covering an NFL team (they had a pastry cart you wouldn’t believe) and now have some time to decompose, err, decompress until we find more work.
Don’t get us wrong, hanging around, eating blocks of cheese the size of car batteries, and watching Netflix from a recliner with a built-in fridge (hey, The White Shadow is on!) sounds glamorous, but we had a better idea.
What if the two of us teamed up? Neither one of us can handle job hunting all by ourselves. We’ve tried. We don’t have it. But maybe the two of us, working together, at full capacity, could do the job of one normal unemployed journalist. Each of us would only have to be like a half-man. That sounds about right.
So, here’s what to expect: Sports, snark, and some writing. It’s what we love. Plus, bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica (had to).
We proclaim this, the Summer of George (Project)!
